OVERVIEW
This book, a corrected reprint of the 1992 classic, provides a complete introduction to the principles, methods, and applications of multigrid methods, without requiring an advanced knowledge of mathematics. Inspired by a series of lectures given in Delft, Bristol, Lyons, Zurich, and Beijing. Topics such as the basic multigrid principle, smoothing methods and their Fourier analysis, coarse grid approximation, multigrid cycles and results of multigrid convergence theory are treated. Applications in computational fluid dynamics are discussed extensively.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Intended as an introduction to multigrid methods for graduate students in the areas of applied mathematics, engineers, and physicists. The book strives to maintain a level suitable to non-mathematical but computing-intensive disciplines, and only assumes a basic knowledge of analysis, partial differential equations, and numerical mathematics.
